In addition to 5g, F5G is expected to support a trillion dollar market

Since the outbreak of COVID-19, students have online classes at home, office workers at home, experts through telemedicine consultation… All these make people all over the world realize the importance of high-quality communication network, and also bring new business demand and economic growth.

As we all know, mobile communication network is upgrading to 5g, which brings the characteristics of “large bandwidth, low delay, multi connection”. In fact, the fixed network also has its own “5g” concept – F5G, the fifth generation of fixed network communication, namely Gigabit fiber to the home. Compared with wireless network, F5G plays a more important role in home, office, enterprise park and industrial production. Because not all devices have the demand of mobile networking, and in this scenario, most devices need a high-speed and stable network with low power consumption and free from electromagnetic interference. Therefore, the optical fiber network F5G has become an indispensable new infrastructure like 5g.

“Guanglian everything” is expected to hold up a trillion dollar market

From the perspective of intergenerational characteristics, f1g only provides voice service of wired network; f2g provides Web access service; F3G can well support video services; f4g can support 4K HD.

In early 2020, ETSI established the F5G working group, defined the five generation fixed network, and promulgated the F5G vision of “connecting all things with light”. F5G will provide high-quality technical support for Gigabit WiFi, cloud VR, AR, 8K video, enterprise park and cloud dedicated line. ETSI estimates that new applications such as 4K / 8K / cloud VR / Ar / Park and manufacturing will create a new market of up to US $1 trillion.

Around F5G, social economy can also quickly form a large number of industrial routes that cooperate with 5g, complement each other, and deeply affect the trend of technology integration. For example, industries such as smart home, cloud VR, hundred g park network, and smart buildings need to rely on the Industrial Synergy brought by F5G. F5G is closely related to a series of future industrial upgrading, from data center and intelligent security to intelligent upgrading of medical, all-optical campus and financial institutions.

Huawei: optical fiber is the wealth resource connecting all things in the future

In the first half of this year, the consulting firm Analysys Mason released the “European all-optical position paper”, pointing out that all-optical access network is a “strategic infrastructure”. This means that both domestic and international communities have realized the important strategic and economic value of optical fiber network.

But why optical networks?

Jin Yuzhi, President of Huawei’s transmission and access product line, gave the answer: “the longest service life of optical fiber can be up to 30 years. It can support different generations of optical fiber technology and support smooth upgrade. The spectrum of optical fiber is 1000 times wider than that of optical fiber. And fiber spectrum is free. “

It is not only European consulting companies and Huawei that have noticed the strategic and economic value of optical fiber. It is understood that many domestic operators have also noticed the value of optical fiber, and to the fixed mobile integration strategy.

According to a statistical data of 228 operators around the world, in 2010, only 116 operators chose the fixed mobile integration strategy. This year, the number has increased to nearly 200. In the past three years, China Mobile’s fixed broadband revenue has maintained an annual growth rate of about 40%, and its current rapid deployment of 5g base stations also relies on optical fiber. It is worth mentioning that the optical fiber network was also deployed this year in Mount Qomolangma, 6500 meters above sea level and 30 degrees below zero, to support related network services.

But deploying fiber is not easy. Traditional optical fiber deployment faces three challenges: site acquisition, right of way and construction. All of these will take more than 1-2 years to complete. Therefore, Huawei has launched the airpon solution, which can make use of the existing old wireless sites to quickly build a fixed optical fiber network, so as to quickly deploy this strategic wealth resource.
