Japanese companies develop smart masks that can translate Japanese into eight languages

On July 15, 2020, a Japanese company named donut robotics developed a smart mask called c-mask, which can translate the wearer’s words into eight different languages. However, this white c-mask needs to be used with ordinary masks. Users will cover the plastic “c-mask” on the ordinary masks and connect them with their mobile phones through Bluetooth. After that, they can send text messages and make phone calls through the masks, and increase the volume of users’ calls. The smart mask will cost about $260000 to develop, mainly from crowdfunding. It is reported that donut robotics is developing this smart mask, which is also a self-help move. With the opportunity of the Olympic Games, the company got orders for robot guides and translators from Haneda Airport in Japan. However, due to the postponement of the Olympic Games, the order has not yet been fulfilled, and the company urgently needs a new product to ensure its survival. About 5000 smart masks are planned to be produced and put on the market in Japan in September. The supported languages include Chinese, English, Spanish, French, Korean, Thai, Vietnamese and Indonesian.
