Xia Quan said that in 2019, the 5g era will open in the world. For more than a year, 5g has become the fastest generation of wireless communication technology for commercial deployment so far. At present, more than 385 operators in the world are investing in 5g. In 2023, the number of 5g connections in the world is expected to exceed 1 billion, which is two years faster than that of 4G. In China, 15000 5g base stations have been built every week recently. It is estimated that the number of 5g base stations in China will exceed 600000 by the end of this year.

Since its commercial application in the world last year, 5g has become the fastest generation of wireless communication technology for commercial deployment so far. At the same time, 5g applications are also expanding to different vertical fields such as smart phones, computers, industrial Internet of things, intelligent networked vehicles and enterprise private networks.

Xia Quan said that after 5g is really popularized as the general infrastructure of society, the 5g era will be the era of intelligent interconnection of all things. Qualcomm is very pleased to join hands with China’s industrial ecology through the business model of “invention sharing cooperation” to accelerate the realization of the broad prospect of “intelligent interconnection of everything”.

As an enterprise focusing on basic technology research and development, Qualcomm shares all the technologies it has developed with the whole industry ecosystem through chip products and technology licensing. In addition to technology sharing, Qualcomm also cooperates with various stakeholders in the entire industrial ecosystem to vigorously enable the development of the entire ecosystem.

More than a decade ago, Qualcomm began basic research on 5g. The advantages established by Qualcomm in the 5g field are inseparable from its continuous leading role in investment and innovation. “Over the years, Qualcomm has been committed to a high proportion of innovation and R & D investment. Since 2006, 20% of its revenue has been invested in technology R & D every year. So far, the cumulative R & D investment of Qualcomm has exceeded $64 billion. ” Xia Quan said.

Xia Quan believes that there are three key time points for the technological revolution in the mobile field, and 5g is no exception. One is the research on basic system technology, which started several years before the standardization and implementation of technology. The second is to lead the industry and standardization process to ensure that the best technology is adopted by standards, including backward compatibility and “future oriented” scalability. Third, in the form of software, chip and network, we will rapidly promote the realization of 5g, and cooperate with the ecosystem to promote large-scale business.

“5g pilot program” is an achievement that Qualcomm is proud of. In the 2020 China International Trade in services Fair, 5g pilot program was awarded “service demonstration case science and Technology Innovation Award” by the organizer. In January 2018, Qualcomm, together with many leading mobile phone manufacturers in China, such as Xiaomi, oppo, vivo, Lenovo, ZTE and Wentai, launched the 5g pilot program. The vision of the program is to support the accelerated deployment of 5g and help Chinese partners succeed in domestic and global markets. At present, this plan has achieved remarkable results. Among the first batch of 5g smart phones launched by major countries and regions in the world, there are products from Chinese manufacturers. This year is the third year of the release of 5g pilot plan. At present, more than 10 mobile phone manufacturers and brands in China have successively released 5g flagship smart phones equipped with snapdragon 865 mobile platform.

Qualcomm is increasing its support for Chinese partners, and its cooperation with Chinese partners does not stop at smart phones. In July this year, in order to accelerate the construction and development of the Internet of things industry ecosystem, and enable Chinese manufacturers to better grasp the market opportunities at home and abroad, Qualcomm, together with more than 20 partners, jointly initiated the “5g Internet of things innovation plan”, which is committed to promoting the win-win innovation of the Internet of things industry from three dimensions of terminal form, ecological cooperation and digital upgrading, and jointly drawing the 5g era of intelligent Internet The ecological blueprint of China.

Xia Quan said that 2020 will be a year when the global 5g development has begun to take shape, and also a key year for China to promote economic transformation and industrial upgrading through the construction of 5g and other new infrastructure.
