The washing machine is a product with a very long history. In 1858, American Hamilton Smith used a wooden barrel and a hand crank shaft with paddles to create the world’s first washing machine.
After that, the washing machine developed from manual to electric, the principle has not changed much, and the technology is also very mature.
In 1993, China Haier Corporation and Italy jointly established Haier Meloni to produce drum washing machines. In 1995, it merged with Qingdao Red Star Electric, an old washing machine company, and began to produce double tub and fully automatic washing machines. It is now the world’s number one washing machine brand. 20 million units in 10 factories.
Haier still faces many problems, one is laundry cleaning and the other is clothes color.
We say that washing clothes in a washing machine is easy to wash, especially the neck and cuffs, which often need to be hand-washed beforehand.
In fact, this is not a problem of poor laundry technology, but a fragmentation of the industry. The reason that clothes are difficult to wash is because the protein macromolecules in stains are too large, and ordinary detergents are difficult to clean, and the protease for protein stains is difficult to store in detergent for a long time, and the result is that the washing effect is not good.
In addition to cleanliness, there is also the issue of clothing color. Haier’s research concluded that the color of the clothes is dim after washing, not because of the fading of the pigment, but the diffuse reflection of light caused by the abrasion of the cellulose on the fiber surface.
In addition to the problem of long-term storage, the matching of washing machines and detergents is also a problem. What solution does the washing machine use to wash clothes, how much detergent to add, and how to match it? Because washing machine manufacturers and detergent manufacturers are independent, it is difficult for consumers to grasp.
This problem is similar to our mobile phones and computers.
The manufacturer that sells our computer does the hardware, but we use the software. The hardware and software have compatibility and adaptation issues.
Intel’s processors support a highly efficient instruction set, but the software does not. This instruction set consumes no power and wastes transistors.
For the applicability of the software, it has to adapt to a large number of configurations on the market, which cannot achieve the ultimate efficiency.
In this regard, Apple’s solution is that we all do it, users use functions, not machines.
Therefore, Apple designs its own M1 chip, builds its own MacOS operating system, develops tools for its developers, and finally controls the ecosystem of application software.
Apple’s M1 has many hardware decoding circuits, which are specially supported by software. The result is that M1 clips with extremely low power consumption are better than expensive multi-processor workstations.
An integrated solution will give users the final product and give users a better experience. This is Apple’s idea.
Haier’s BlingBling color machine uses Apple’s thinking on the washing machine.
Ordinary washing machines have only one detergent box and one outlet, which cannot reasonably control the amount of detergent used.
Haier can design washing machines according to demand with the idea of integration. Use printer cartridges in the washing machine, and choose different formulas according to different clothes.
At the same time, a sensor is placed in the washing machine to sense the condition of the clothes in the washing machine, choose an appropriate amount of detergent, and cooperate with the movement of the motor to achieve an ideal washing effect.
From a technical point of view, there is no novel technology, but there is a great improvement in the laundry experience.
